VOZ Studio Live Interview with Natascha Mair

In February of 1995, world-renowned classical ballet dancer, Natascha Mair, was born in Vienna, Austria to Carinthian and Viennese parents. Growing up in Kaisermuhlen, she began ballet lessons at age 5 before quickly transfering to train at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School (currently referred to as Vienna Ballet) at age seven, under Gabriele Haslinger, Karen Henry, Galina Skuratova, Evelyn Téri, and others. Years later, in 2012, Mair passed the Matura (a secondary school exit exam) along with her ballet diploma examination, allowing her to join the Vienna State Ballet durinng the 2012-2013 season. During her time with the Vienna State Ballet, she’s attended many competitions and hence, recieved many awards, including the 2012 Prize of the Jury at the International Contest of Ballet Schools in Beijing, the 2012 First Place Prize at the Premio Roma Danza, and the 2014 Promotion Prize of the Ballettclub Wiener Staatsioer & Volksoper. Her continuous outstanding performance resulted in her 2014 promotion to demi-soloist, 2016 promotion to soloist, and her 2018 promotion, by Manuel Legris (the Vienna State Ballet Director at the time), to first soloist. Mair’s latest promotion consists of her leaving Vienna State Ballet entirely in 2020 to join English National Ballet as the appointed principal dancer (the highest rank within a professional dance company). Throughout her career as a professional ballerina, she’s made several television appearances, worked alongside various distinguished choreographers, and has an impressive repertoire, consisting of numerous classics.
